Important facts for the week

•  According to the SAGIS weekly producer deliveries report for the week that ended on 2020/07/17, maize deliveries in South Africa for the 2020/21 harvest season have reached a total of 3 851 368 MT for White Maize and 4 261 815 MT for Yellow Maize.

•  According to trading firms Sodruzhestvo and Glencore, Brazil has bought two wheat cargoes from Russia this month after a new tariff-free quota for Brazilian wheat imports from outside the Mercosur bloc, which includes neighbouring Argentina, Brazil's main wheat supplier, was implemented.

•  According to agribusiness consultancy StoneX, Brazilian soybean farmers are expected to expand planted area to over 38 million hectares (93.9 million acres) in the season that will kick off in mid-September as demand for soybeans remains strong. In the 2019/2020 harvest, Brazil planted about 37 million hectares (91 million acres) with soybeans, according to government data, resulting in a record harvest of 120.9 MMT.
