WOLMARKVERSLAG / WOOL MARKET REPORT CV15_2020

geplaas op 09:37 (GMT+2) Vr., 17 Jan. 2020

Hierdie week het die SA wolmark effens sterker verhandel, teenoor die vorige veiling / This week saw the SA wool market trading a little stronger, compared to the previous auction.

MARKANALISE

Daar is in totaal 11329 bale aangebied, waarvan 95.3% verkoop is.

(RWS gesertifiseer) Die koper was Standard Wool. Baie geluk met die prestasie!

MARKVOORUITSIGTE

Entstof is tans beskikbaar by u naaste OVK tak.

MARKET ANALYSIS

In Port Elizabeth the 15th wool auction of the 2019/20 season took place and the Cape Wools Merino indicator traded by 0.5% and 96 points higher and closed at a clean price of R177.43/kg. The Australian EMI increased by 3.3%. The Rand traded 1.6% weaker against the US Dollar and 2% stronger against the Euro, compared to the previous sale. Good quality and medium lengths wool types attracted satisfactory interest amongst buyers, while the stronger end of the market did not perform so good. Sustainable certified lots enjoyed good attention and performed well. The largest increase this week of 2.4% was in the 21.5micron segment. Modiano was the major buyer on the auction this week, followed by Lempriere SA, Standard Wool and Tianyu SA. A total of 11329 bales were on offer, of which 95.3% was sold.

On the OVK auction 3923 bales were offered of which 94.7% was sold. The highest price of R143.60/kg was achieved for a 1 bale lot BMY of 18.5 microns, from the clip of H.F. Van Heerden from Burgersdorp. (RWS certified). The buyer was Standard Wool. Congratulations on the achievement!

MARKET FORECAST

This week saw the SA wool market trading a little stronger, compared to the previous auction. This weaker Rand could not fully compensate in comparison with the Australian market though. The volumes of wool received in the stores of the brokers this week, are nearly 53% lower compared to the same week of the previous season and accumulatively 4.5% lower. That is mainly because of the ongoing drought in large production areas such as the Eastern and Northern Cape. Good rain showers were reported in certain areas though, which will bring some relieve. In the light of the ongoing difficult environmental circumstances, OVK wants to invite our producers to contact us if any advances on fibre delivered or financing is needed. Please call our fibre office in Port Elizabeth or your Technical Field Officer for more information. The OVK website can also be visited for more details. OVK is committed to assist our producers in good as well as difficult times, to the best of our ability.

Bio-security is the buzzword on everybody’s lips in the light of the current circumstances regarding Foot and Mouth disease and the limitations conditions on the movement of livestock. It is necessary for producers to have knowledge of the clinical presentation of the virus and the associated risks. If the disease is not managed properly, it will result in enormous economic losses, even in the long term. In the regions where good rains occurred, the chances of renewed outbreaks of Rift Valley Fever are very probable. Vaccines are available at your nearest OVK branch. Another disease to be aware of, is Bluetongue. Reports of huge numbers of midges and mosquitoes that occurs, are received from all over. Ensure that animals, brought from unfamiliar areas, are clean from parasite contamination and that the animal health status is known, in order to prevent resistant parasites and diseases are not brought onto disease free farms. That could cause enormous negative economic results.

The next wool auction is scheduled for 23 January 2020 where 10986 bales will be on offer. This report by Heinrich Victor, Manager Fibre Operations – OVK
