geplaas op Vr., 13 Mrt. 2020

Die verswakking van die Rand het die plaaslike mark effens beskerm teen ‘n groter daling / The decrease of the Rand protected the local market somewhat against a larger decrease.

MARKANALISE

Daar is in totaal 10,213 bale aangebied, waarvan 89% verkoop is. Die koper was Tianyu SA. Baie geluk met die prestasie!

VOORUITSIGTE

MARKET ANALYSES

The 23rd wool auction of the 2019/20 season took place this week and the Cape Wools Merino indicator traded 0.7% and 120 points lower and closed at a clean price of R177.89/kg. The Australian EMI decreased by 2.6%. The Rand traded 6.9% weaker against the US Dollar this week and 7.8% weaker against the Euro, compared to the previous sale. Long fine Merino Wool fleeces still performed good and traded above the market average, while crossbred and non-merino wool was under pressure. The largest decrease this week of 4.1% was in the 22 micron segments. Lempriere SA was the major buyer on the auction this week, followed by Standard Wool, Modiano and Tianyu SA. A total of 10,213 bales were on offer, of which 89% was sold. On the OVK auction 2,892 bales were offered of which 84.5% was sold. The highest price on the OVK auction, of R149.00/kg was achieved for a 1 bale lot BL of 15.9 microns, from the clip of AD Dicks from Stutterheim. The buyer was Tianyu SA. Congratulations on the achievement!

FORECAST

This week the SA wool market decreased, compared to the previous auction. The decrease of the Rand protected the local market somewhat against a larger decrease.  The main reason behind the decrease though, is the uncertainty in global markets in general, due to the Corona virus outbreak which is now declared a global pandemic. The volumes of wool received in the stores of the brokers this week, are accumulatively 7.9% higher compared to the same week of the previous season, which is positive news. If any advances on fibre delivered, or production financing is needed, OVK invites producers to contact our fibre office in Port Elizabeth or your Technical Field Officer for more information. Sustainability and traceability are very important aspects which producers will have to give serious consideration to, in order to ensure international competition in future. Consumers don’t just ask anymore, but demand that supply of wool must be free of doubtful practices. That is becoming more evident and is reflected in the demand for such wool on the weekly wool auctions. OVK is indeed geared to assist you in the certification of RWS (Responsible Wool Standards) and also soon RMS (Responsible Mohair Standards), in the mohair industry.

The next wool auction is scheduled for 20 March 2020 where 10,304 bales will be on offer. This report by Heinrich Victor, Marketing Manager Fibre – OVK.
