Cape Wools Merino aanwyser daal met 2.2% / Cape Wools Merino indicator decreases by 2.2%

MARKANALISE

MARKET ANALYSES

The 11th wool auction of the 2020/21 season took place this week on 28 October. The Cape Wools Merino indicator traded 2.2% lower, compared to the previous sale and closed at a clean price of R145.60kg. The Australian EMI also decreased by 6.6%, compared to the previous sale. Compared to the rate of the previous sale, the Rand traded 0.5% stronger against the US Dollar and 1.4% stronger to the Euro. The largest decrease this week, of 2.9%, was in the 22 micron segment. G.Modiano SA was the major buyer on the auction this week, followed by Lempriere SA, Standard Wool SA and Stucken & Co. A total of 10099 bales were on offer, of which 95.5% was sold.

On the OVK auction 3009 bales were offered, of which 98.5% was sold. The highest price on the OVK auction, of R146.00/kg, was achieved for a 3 bale lot CL of 17.6 microns, from the clip of the Grootzoe Farming (Pty) Ltd., Bredasdorp. The buyer was Stucken & Co. Congratulations on this achievement!

FORECAST

There is significant uncertainty about the bigger volumes wool that will be on offer, in South-Africa and Australia, in the near future, as well as the renewed outbreaks of Covid-19 in Europe. The exchange rate of the Rand against the most important currencies, over the next week, might have an impact on next week's auction. The receival of wool in the brokers’ stores this week is 12.8% lower, compared to the same time of the previous season.

Sustainable certified (RWS), good quality Merino wool, was in high demand on the auction and enjoyed healthy competition amongst the buyers. Producers have to take note of this and also accept that this is a future trend which has come to stay. We invite farmers to contact OVK for assistance in the certification process. The next wool auction is scheduled for 4 November where 7378 bales will be on offer.

OVK offer advances on fibre delivered in PE, as well as production loans. Please contact OVK Fibre’s office in Port Elizabeth or your Technical Field Officer for more information. Please enquire about OVK’s exciting new commission structure on fibre marketed by OVK. Producers must also bear in mind that OVK’s loyalty scheme awards farmers 23.9 cents per kilogram on fibre marketed by OVK.
