MARKANALISE
MARKET ANALYSIS
The second round of the fourth mohair sale of the 2020 summer selling season had some mixed results. There was good competition from the local processors on most types. Adult hair as well as the stronger young goat hair received less attention. Compared to the previous sale, kids were 0.5% dearer, young goats down by 3.0% and adults down by 0.7%. The best price of the day went to Sarel du Plessis of Oudtshoorn at R560.00/kg! This above average style summer kid bale tested 22.6 micron with a clean yield of 96.9%.
Today's sales analysis is as follows: The price of kids increased by 0.5% with a market indicator of R427.79/kg and a 100% sale clearance; young goat hair decreased by 3.0% with a market indicator of R264.39/kg and a sale clearance of 91%. Adult mohair decreased by 0.7% with a market indicator of R178.90/kg and 86% sold. This brought the overall sale clearance to 86.5% and the overall market indicator to R244.98/kg which is 0.9 % lower.
MARKET OUTLOOK
There is a definite demand for the finer microns (31micron and finer) and special care must be taken to separate the finer microns from the stronger ones. This makes EGT a logical choice for the better than average farmer. The price levels for strong young goat mohair as well as that of adult mohair will remain under pressure until Europe is back in the market. The next sale will be offered on 15th of June 2020 in Port Elizabeth.
