The first mohair sale of the 2020 summer selling season kicked of well with good competition from all buyers.

MARKANALISE

MARKET ANALYSIS

The first mohair sale of the 2020 summer selling season kicked of well with good competition from all buyers. This was confirmed with the good spread of business going to the different buying houses with not one very dominant buyer. Also noted is the lack of interest in the non-sustainable lots of mohair (Some lots sold for 20% less).  Compared to the last sale in December 2019, kids sold 5.3% better, young goats 17.9% better and adults 5.88% better. the best price of the day went to Paul Steynberg of Graaff Reinet at R532.10/kg! This average style summer kid bale tested 21.9micron with a clean yield of 86.1%.

Today's sales analysis is as follows:  The price of kids increased by 5.3% with a market indicator of R418.94/kg and a 100% sale clearance; young goat hair increased by 17.9% with a market indicator of R286.48/kg and a sale clearance of 100%. Adult mohair increased by 5.8% with a market indicator of R187.81/kg and 100% sold. This brought the overall sale clearance to 100% and the overall market indicator to R253.03/kg which is 8.2% higher.

MARKET OUTLOOK

There is a definite demand for the finer microns (31micron and finer) and special care must be taken to separate the finer microns from the stronger ones. This makes EGT a logical choice for the better than average farmer. The next sale should follow the same price trend as the first one. This sale will be offered on the 3rd of March 2020 in Port Elizabeth.
