MARKANALISE

MARKET ANALYSIS
The first auction of the 2022 Winter season took place today 16 August in Port Elizabeth, with 90,830 kg on offer of which 93% was sold. The offer consisted of mixed quality mohair. It was difficult to quote due to the large difference in variation and composition of the offer from one season to another. Competition between buyers’ houses was good, with RMS certified mohair being the most sought after on the day. The average market indicator closed at R374.84/kg, which was 7% less than the last auction of the summer season. This is due to higher inflation in Europe and economic instability in Asia, due to lower-than-expected economic growth. Kid mohair and young goats decreased by 9%, fine adult mohair decreased by 7% and strong adult mohair decreased by 2%. OVK bins started the season well once again! Highest bin price and auction price of R727.50/kg was paid for a bale of BSFFK of 25 microns, producers in that lot were Kroomkrantz Bdy and JVW Olivier. The two highest producer bales at the auction for the day were two OVK producers. PK Steynberg from Graaff-Reinet with a bale of BFFK of 23.4 microns was sold for R709.50/kg and F&M Boerdery from Willowmore with a bale of BSFFK of 24.9 microns was sold for R708.50/kg the buyer was Stucken Co. OVK is very proud of its producers with their achievements and we appreciate their support. TOGETHER WE ACHIVE MORE.
