Critical time for farmers to order RVF vaccines
The first outbreak of Rift Valley Fever (RVF) since 2011 was reported on 28 April close to Jacobsdal district in the Letsemeng local municipality in the Free State. According to the official OIE report as presented by the Department of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (DAFF), 250 sheep from a flock of 600 died. Wool production statistics from Cape Wools SA (CWSA) project losses of approximately 7 147 million kg wool to the value of R750 million during previous outbreak of RVF during 2010 and 2012.
